Paul Ives of Four Paws Training Wins Influential Man in Business 2027 for Canine Training

Paul Ives, founder of Four Paws Training, has been awarded the prestigious Influential Man in Business 2027 title in the category of Canine Training, recognising his dedication to helping dogs and owners build happier, more balanced lives through calm, structured, and compassionate training methods.

Four Paws Training has become widely respected for its residential dog training and behavioural rehabilitation services, supporting puppies and adult dogs facing a wide range of behavioural challenges. Built on experience, patience, and genuine care, the company focuses on creating confident, well-balanced companions while helping owners feel proud rather than overwhelmed.

Reflecting on the beginnings of the business, Paul said:

“I had worked in sales for 30 years and decided I wanted a change. I started Four Paws Training with £2 in the bank and one trainer and we started to cover London only. I wanted to help owners and their dogs have the best life.”

From humble beginnings, Four Paws Training has grown significantly through determination, innovation, and a commitment to continuous improvement. Paul credits resilience and forward-thinking strategies as major contributors to the company’s success.

Over the past four years, the business has invested heavily in technology, including the development of apps, a new booking system, and automation processes designed to improve customer experience. Artificial intelligence has also played an important role in helping the business research and operate more efficiently, while the launch of a new website has already delivered strong results.

Like many entrepreneurs, Paul has faced difficult periods throughout his journey. However, his ability to refocus and push forward has remained central to his leadership style.

“There have been times when I thought that’s it, I have had enough, but then deep breath, refocus and carry on and resolve the issue and move forward. Always turning a negative into a positive is a big thing.”

Paul’s passion for helping dogs and owners continues to drive the business every day. Seeing training results and watching the transformation videos from clients remains one of the most rewarding aspects of his work, reinforcing the core mission behind Four Paws Training.

Among the company’s proudest achievements was being named Best Residential Dog Training Company in the UK, a milestone Paul describes as an incredible accomplishment for the business. To date, Four Paws Training has successfully trained more than 400 dogs, a figure that continues to motivate the team even during challenging times.

Offering advice to others looking to build a career in the industry, Paul emphasises the importance of preparation and understanding the marketplace. He encourages aspiring business owners to thoroughly research and test every idea before implementation while maintaining a strong understanding of customer needs.

Looking ahead, Four Paws Training is preparing for further expansion into Northern Ireland and Southern Ireland as part of its continued growth programme. Receiving the award has also inspired Paul to think more broadly about additional services and opportunities that could benefit dog owners across the UK.

Although many successful business leaders point to mentors or major influences, Paul remains refreshingly honest about forging his own path, stating simply:

“To be honest I don’t have one.”

His story is a testament to what can be achieved through perseverance, adaptability, and a genuine commitment to helping others. Through Four Paws Training, Paul has not only built a successful business but has also made a meaningful difference in the lives of hundreds of dogs and their owners.

Winning the Influential Man in Business 2027 Award for Canine Training recognises both his entrepreneurial success and his ongoing commitment to raising standards within the dog training industry.
