Leanne Milburn, a professional dog trainer and the founder of The Ipswich Dog Trainer, has been recognised for her outstanding contributions to the pet training industry, winning the prestigious Influential Women in Business Award. This award celebrates female entrepreneurs who have demonstrated exceptional leadership, innovation, and impact within their field.
Leanne launched The Ipswich Dog Trainer in June 2020, right in the middle of a global pandemic. Despite the challenges, she turned her passion for dog training into a thriving business, adapting to lockdown restrictions by offering virtual training sessions. Her dedication and innovative approach led to an international client base and a growing reputation for excellence in the industry.
Leanne Milburn’s journey into dog training was inspired by her beloved rescue Staffordshire Bull Terrier, Vinnie. When Vinnie joined her family as an adolescent, he struggled with reactivity due to a lack of socialisation. Through training and patience, Vinnie made incredible progress, even forming bonds with canine companions. Later in life, as he lost his sight and hearing, Leanne gained first-hand experience working with senior, blind, and deaf dogs. Although Vinnie crossed the rainbow bridge in October 2022, his legacy continues to shape The Ipswich Dog Trainer, ensuring countless dogs and their owners benefit from what he taught Leanne.
Before establishing her business, Leanne assisted in puppy classes while pursuing qualifications in dog training. She initially launched her career by running Understanding Canine Body Language courses before expanding her expertise. Years of study, attending seminars, and hands-on experience prepared her to take the leap and build a business that prioritises compassionate, evidence-based training techniques.
Leanne’s expertise extends beyond her own business. As a Senior Instructor for Dog Training College, she plays a crucial role in training aspiring professionals through Puppy Klass and Rapid Recallers instructor courses. She has also led loose lead walking and recall crash courses and has featured as a guest speaker on various webinars alongside industry experts.
Today, The Ipswich Dog Trainer continues to thrive under Leanne’s leadership, offering specialised training in UK Sniffer Dogs and reactivity training. As a certified Reactivity Specialist, she has helped numerous dogs and their owners navigate behavioural challenges using positive reinforcement methods.
Leanne Milburn’s commitment to excellence is reflected in her numerous qualifications, awards, and memberships in leading professional organisations. Along with her team, she upholds the highest standards of care, ensuring all trainers are DBS checked, pet first aid trained, and fully insured.
In December 2022, Leanne welcomed Dobby The House Dog, a Staffordshire Bull Terrier x Rottweiler, into her family. Dobby is now part of her journey, and clients may even have the chance to meet him in future training sessions.
