What started as a small private diving service gradually evolved into one of the most respected names in international scuba diving tourism, known not only for professional excellence but also for its warm family atmosphere and deeply loyal customer base.
In the early years, the business was very much a family operation. Gwyn’s mother assisted with administration while both Gwyn and his brother became involved during holidays before eventually joining the company full-time. Over time, that close-knit culture became one of the company’s defining strengths.
Clients and staff alike frequently describe the environment at Elite Diving as unique within the industry.
“We are always told that our family atmosphere is quite unique in the world of dive centres. Even our staff tell us it’s different working with Elite than it is with other dive centres. They say that the team spirit and family atmosphere is very comforting,” Gwyn shared.
Unlike many businesses that pursued rapid expansion during the industry’s peak years, Elite Diving deliberately chose a different path. Rather than prioritising scale, the company focused on maintaining exceptional standards, personalised service, and meaningful customer relationships.
“We are big enough to deliver but small enough to care.”
That commitment to quality has allowed Red Sea Elite Diving to build a globally recognised reputation for elite diving holidays, guided dive experiences, and professional PADI diver training. As the sole UK agent for Divers United and an agent for Pharaoh Divers and Deep Blue Liveaboard, the company provides divers with access to world-class diving experiences alongside a full range of beginner and advanced diving courses.
Today, Divers United operates as a respected PADI Instructor Development Centre, offering opportunities for both new divers and experienced professionals to advance their qualifications while exploring some of the world’s most extraordinary underwater environments.
The company’s journey, however, has not been without significant challenges.
Like many tourism businesses, Elite Diving faced immense difficulties during periods of global and regional instability, particularly during the Arab Spring and following the 2015 aviation tragedy that severely impacted tourism numbers.
“The biggest challenge we’ve faced is keeping open when the number of tourists dropped dramatically. We had to rotate the staff so everyone was getting some salary at the end of the month, but we still had loyal customers coming which helped us to survive.”
Despite these setbacks, the business persevered through resilience, teamwork, and the loyalty of returning divers who continued to support the company throughout challenging times.
Receiving the Rising Phoenix Award now serves as recognition not only of the company’s achievements but also of the dedication and unity of the entire Elite Diving team.
“Receiving this award is not a personal thing, as it’s been achieved due to the whole team. It does make me proud of them, especially as we have got the recognition for our standard of work and service.”
For Gwyn and the team at Red Sea Elite Diving, the true motivation has always come from sharing the beauty of the underwater world with others.
“For those who have dived or learned to dive in the Red Sea will understand what a pleasure it is to work in such an amazing environment. It’s the pleasure our divers get from our efforts by taking them diving, showing them amazing marine life, and keeping them safe which motivates us most.”
The company credits much of its inspiration and success to the strong values established by founder Alun Evans and the family-led culture that continues to shape the business today. Professionalism, respect, fairness, and genuine care for both staff and guests remain central to the company’s operations.
Looking ahead, the goals for the future remain refreshingly simple.
“My goal is a simple one… to just keep doing what we are doing, by keeping our team motivated and continuing to provide the same high standards our divers expect from us.”
