Garry Warhurst, founder of Warhurst Associates, has been recognised for his outstanding contribution to consultancy across food safety, ethical trading, and sustainability.
With more than 28 years of industry experience, Garry has built a strong reputation for helping businesses improve standards, achieve compliance, and create meaningful, long-term impact. His approach is rooted in understanding each client’s unique goals and delivering practical, tailored solutions that genuinely add value.
At the heart of Garry’s work is a clear focus on helping businesses move forward.
“I always wish to drive improvements through any business and help people and businesses develop so that they can achieve their own goals and targets,” Garry explains.
Whether supporting start-ups, guiding product launches, improving sustainability practices, or helping organisations achieve top audit grades, his work is always aligned with the client’s objectives. Rather than applying a one-size-fits-all model, Garry takes the time to understand how each business operates and what success looks like for them.
Looking ahead, Garry sees technology-particularly AI-playing a growing role in consultancy, especially in areas like systems, procedures, and documentation.
However, he is clear that human expertise remains essential.
Every business has its own culture, structure, and way of working. While AI can support efficiency, it cannot replace the practical insight and judgement that experienced consultants bring. This balance will be key as the industry evolves.
Sustainability is also becoming a major focus, with businesses placing greater importance on the environmental and social impact of the consultants they work with.
While compliance and certifications are important, Garry sees the real value of consultancy in something deeper-growth.
For him, the most rewarding part of the job is seeing individuals and teams develop over time. Watching people progress in their careers or organisations improve their culture is what stands out most.
Garry’s commitment to professional development is central to his success.
He is a Fellow, registered mentor, auditor, and Food Safety Manager with IFST, as well as an Associate member of ISEP and an IRCA Social Systems Principal Auditor. Each year, he completes ongoing CPD and actively participates in industry events, conferences, and networking opportunities.
This continuous learning ensures he remains up to date with evolving standards, emerging technologies, and new ways to support his clients effectively.
Beyond consultancy, Garry plays an active role in shaping industry standards.
He is involved in Working Groups and Technical Advisory Committees for BRCGS Food Safety and Ethical Trading Standards, contributing to the development of internationally recognised frameworks.
He has also supported the creation of the BSI Suicide and the Workplace standard (BS 30480), bringing both professional expertise and personal insight to the process.
For those considering a career in consultancy, Garry offers straightforward advice: build experience first and stay open to learning.
“Say yes to things that you may not have the knowledge right now to achieve… learn about them and then achieve them.”
He encourages individuals to step outside their comfort zones, gain a broad understanding of how businesses operate, and ultimately build a career around something they genuinely enjoy.
Through Warhurst Associates, Garry continues to deliver consultancy that is practical, sustainable, and results-driven. His work reflects a long-standing commitment to helping businesses improve while making a positive impact on people and the wider industry.
