Michelle Sidwell Academy of Dance Wins Inspirational Women in Business Award 2026 for Performing Arts & Dance Education

Michelle Sidwell Academy of Dance has been recognised with the Inspirational Women in Business Award 2026 for Performing Arts & Dance Education, celebrating founder Michelle Sidwell’s dedication to creating a supportive and inspiring environment where children can grow in confidence, creativity, and self-belief.

Since founding the academy in 1999, Michelle has built far more than a dance school. It has become a thriving community where children are encouraged not only to develop technical ability, but to build confidence, form friendships, and feel a true sense of belonging.

Michelle’s journey into dance began at the age of four, when she first discovered the passion that would shape her career. After performing professionally throughout her early years, she found her true calling in teaching and helping young people grow through dance.

“I founded Michelle Sidwell Academy of Dance to create a supportive and inclusive environment where every child feels encouraged, valued, and able to thrive, both in dance and in themselves.”

That philosophy remains at the core of the academy’s success. While the school is recognised for its high standards in performing arts education, Michelle believes its true strength lies in the atmosphere it creates.

“Consistency, care, and community have been key. I’ve always focused on creating a welcoming environment for both students and their families.”

These values have shaped a culture built on kindness, patience, and empathy, allowing students to feel safe, express themselves, and grow in confidence.

During the Covid lockdowns, when many performing arts schools faced uncertainty, Michelle’s commitment to her students never wavered. The academy quickly adapted, moving classes online and delivering over 60 sessions per week to ensure students remained active, connected, and supported.

“That experience reinforced the importance of adaptability, resilience, and community. Even in difficult circumstances, staying focused on your purpose can carry you through.”

This resilience has continued to open doors for students, with opportunities to perform at Disneyland Paris, on a West End stage, and at The O2. For Michelle, these moments are about much more than performance.

“It’s about seeing a child walk into class unsure, then grow in confidence, build friendships, and feel proud of themselves. Those moments are incredibly rewarding.”

Michelle credits much of her inspiration to her own dance teacher, Miss Pat, whose creativity and passion left a lasting impression.

“She made me fall in love with performing. I’ve always wanted to create that same excitement and magic for my students.”

Rather than focusing solely on examinations, Michelle has built her academy around experiences that inspire joy, creativity, and pride, making performance a central part of every student’s journey.

Reflecting on her path, Michelle highlights the importance of trusting your own vision.

“The thing that makes you feel different is often what sets you apart. Once I trusted my instincts, everything became more aligned and authentic.”

Receiving the Inspirational Women in Business Award 2026 has been a meaningful milestone, reinforcing her belief in the impact the academy continues to make.

“Winning this award has strengthened my confidence and motivated me to keep growing the school and creating even more opportunities for our students.”

Looking ahead, Michelle remains focused on nurturing young talent, creating joyful experiences, and maintaining the supportive environment that has defined the academy for over two decades.

Her proudest achievement is not measured in numbers, but in the culture she has built.

“I’m most proud of creating a community where children feel included, families feel welcomed, and everyone is encouraged to do their best.”

This recognition celebrates not only Michelle Sidwell’s excellence in dance education, but also her lasting commitment to creating a space where children can grow, thrive, and shine both on stage and beyond.
