Tracey Boyne of Mylor Sailing School Wins Inspirational Woman in Business 2026 Award

Tracey Boyne, Owner of Mylor Sailing School, has been honoured with the Inspirational Woman in Business Award 2026 for Dinghy, Keelboat & Powerboat Training, recognising her exceptional leadership, resilience, and dedication to inclusive maritime education.

Tracey’s journey into business was shaped early in life by the influence of a strong and independent role model. She shares, “I was brought up by a strong independent woman who tried her hand at anything, and that has led me to having the confidence to just go for it.” This mindset laid the foundation for her entrepreneurial success and continues to define her approach to leadership today.

Since taking ownership of Mylor Sailing School in 2006, Tracey has transformed the business into a thriving and inclusive training centre. What began with just five boats has grown into a fleet of 30 high-quality dinghies, keelboats, and powerboats, reflecting both strategic growth and a commitment to delivering exceptional training experiences.

A key factor behind this success is Tracey’s ability to develop people. “I think I am a natural problem solver and also good at recognising people’s strengths, so this has been important when developing members of my team,” she explains. Her focus on nurturing talent and building a positive working environment has played a central role in the school’s continued growth.

Like many entrepreneurs, Tracey has faced significant challenges along the way. “There are many moments that challenge you when running your own business. The failures make you stronger,” she reflects. Balancing business demands with family life, particularly when her children were young, was especially demanding. “Yes, quite a few times. It was tough, it felt like I had three full-time jobs. But I knew I wouldn’t give up.” Her resilience and determination have been key to overcoming these obstacles.

Tracey’s advice to aspiring female entrepreneurs is simple yet powerful, “Don’t let anyone try to talk you out of anything. Go with your heart and a little bit of your head.” Her message continues to inspire others to pursue their ambitions with confidence.

At the heart of Mylor Sailing School is a strong team culture. Tracey values her team as her most important asset, investing in their development and creating an environment where they can thrive. This people-first approach has contributed significantly to the school’s reputation and success.

Among her proudest achievements is founding the Sailability disabled charity, now in its eleventh year, which provides opportunities for disabled sailors to access and enjoy the water. She has also been recognised for her wider contribution to tourism in Cornwall and the local community.

Looking to the future, Tracey continues to innovate. “I am working on another project, a social enterprise, but can’t say too much about it yet,” she shares, highlighting her ongoing commitment to growth and impact.

Reflecting on receiving the award, Tracey says, “It’s a lovely honour to be recognised as an inspiring business. I hope this gives a boost to other small business owners out there, or budding entrepreneurs.”

Through her leadership, dedication, and commitment to accessibility and community, Tracey Boyne continues to make a lasting impact within the maritime and training sectors.
