BESTuition Honoured with Apex of Achievement 2026 for Holistic Tailored Private Tutoring

BESTuition, led by Founder and CEO Amando Brown, has been awarded the prestigious Apex of Achievement 2026 in recognition of its outstanding contribution to holistic, tailored private tutoring.

The award highlights the organisation’s commitment to delivering personalised education that supports both the academic and emotional development of every student.

Amando Brown’s journey into education is one defined by resilience and determination. In 1994, he began his career as a police officer, a role he intended to pursue long term and greatly enjoyed. However, in March 1998, his life changed following a serious road traffic accident.

After completing a 10-hour shift, he was stationary at a junction on his motorbike when a car travelling the wrong way down a one-way street collided with him head on. He was thrown a significant distance, sustaining multiple injuries including fractures to his wrist, lower back, knees, and foot, alongside damage to his shoulder, pelvis, and spine, as well as severe concussion.

Over the following four years, he underwent several major operations, including a spinal fusion and partial wrist fusion. He was registered disabled for approximately eight years and retired from the police in 2002 on medical grounds. At the time, he was advised to limit himself to part-time sedentary work.

Reflecting on that period, he shared:

“This meant starting all over again.”

With the support of his wife, he rebuilt his life and pursued an art degree, despite experiencing memory loss and deteriorating eyesight following the accident. Determined to move forward, he went on to train as a teacher, achieving Qualified Teacher Status in 2007 and beginning his teaching career in secondary and sixth form education, specialising in art and design.

During his time in education, he noticed that students with additional needs naturally gravitated towards him, and he consistently found ways to help them succeed. This led to the founding of BESTuition in 2014, initially as a sole trading business following a parental request for additional support for two teenage children. One of those students went on to complete a degree in veterinary nursing, while the other continues to receive support from BESTuition. In 2019, the organisation became a limited company.

BESTuition provides a wide range of services, with a strong foundation in core subjects including maths, English, and science, alongside additional subjects based on student needs. The organisation also offers mentoring, counselling, and therapeutic support delivered by trained practitioners.

Working with students aged 5 to 25, BESTuition delivers sessions on a one-to-one basis and in small groups of no more than four, both face-to-face and online.

At the heart of BESTuition is its holistic and therapeutic approach. Each student receives a bespoke programme shaped by assessments, past records, and their current circumstances. Curriculums are adapted and structured around the individual, ensuring that learning remains student-led and focused.

Amando Brown explained:

“Most teachers spend a lot of time speaking and very little time listening. In BESTuition, we listen to our students, our clients and our stakeholders to ensure they feel heard, held and understood.”

This commitment to listening informs every aspect of the organisation’s work. Teaching methods are adapted to suit different learning styles, whether through visual tools, reflective practices, or more flexible approaches.

The organisation also places strong emphasis on partnership with parents and carers, offering support beyond the classroom to ensure sustained progress. With the inclusion of an on-site Educational Psychologist, BESTuition supports both the educational and emotional development of its students.

Internally, BESTuition maintains high standards through continuous staff development. Team members receive regular supervision, access to weekly drop-in training sessions, and self-paced online learning to strengthen their skills. The team meets twice weekly to review progress, set objectives, and reflect on performance, ensuring accountability and consistency.

Consistency remains a key principle behind the organisation’s success. Amando Brown describes this approach as being consistent, insistent, and persistent—what he refers to as “stickability.” He also draws inspiration from the phrase Carpe diem, encouraging both his team and students to seize every opportunity.

Despite its achievements, BESTuition continues to face challenges, particularly in increasing national awareness of its services. As Amando Brown noted:

“When parents or schools contact us, the question is usually why they have not found us sooner.”

Looking ahead, the organisation is exploring future growth opportunities, including the potential to become a school—an ambition that presents both opportunities and challenges.

What remains constant is BESTuition’s mission to support students who may have been overlooked, misunderstood, or let down by traditional systems. The organisation takes pride in never turning a student away and in creating an environment where young people can rebuild confidence, develop aspirations, and achieve meaningful progress.

Reflecting on receiving the award, Amando Brown shared that it has brought encouragement and reassurance to the entire team, recognising their hard work and dedication.

The Apex of Achievement 2026 affirms BESTuition’s position as a leader in holistic education, recognising not only its innovative approach but also its lasting impact on the lives of students and families.
