Founder of Luminous Living Ltd recognised with Influential Woman in Business 2026 for Workplace Wellbeing Leadership
After spending seventeen years in banking, Charmaine Davis understood the demands of corporate life better than most. Deadlines, performance targets, long hours and the constant pressure to keep going shaped her professional career, but it was also the environment that ultimately led to burnout and chronic fatigue. Rather than returning to the same routine, she chose a completely different path, one that would eventually inspire the creation of Luminous Living Ltd, an organisation now helping individuals, teams and businesses build healthier, more connected workplaces through counselling, psychotherapy and holistic wellbeing

In recognition of this outstanding contribution, Charmaine Davis has been named Influential Woman in Business 2026 for Workplace Wellbeing Leadership, celebrating her innovative approach to integrating evidence-based therapeutic practice with authentic indigenous wisdom to improve personal and organisational wellbeing.
“I started working at the Bank of England as a sixteen and spent seventeen years in banking,” Charmaine explained. “Corporate life was the only adult working world I knew. I learned to perform, deliver, cope and keep going. Burnout and chronic fatigue forced me to stop. I did not need a holiday or a slightly improved version of the same life. I needed to look honestly at how I was living and what it was costing me.”
That turning point became the foundation of a remarkable journey of personal healing and professional transformation. Drawn towards counselling, psychotherapy, shamanic practice, movement, cacao ceremonies and ecstatic dance, Charmaine spent years learning from respected teachers and indigenous elders in the Amazon and Guatemala, including Mayan elder Tata Pedro. Rather than simply studying these disciplines, she immersed herself in them, rebuilding her own life before others began asking to experience the same work.
Luminous Living was never part of a business plan. It evolved organically as private sessions expanded into group programmes, retreats and professional training. The demand for deeper learning led to the creation of a comprehensive four-year Medicine Wheel programme, while L.E.D. (Luminous Ecstatic Dance) was developed to offer people a safe, joyful and substance-free way to release stress and reconnect with themselves through music and movement.

More recently, the Integration Portal has extended these experiences beyond in-person events, allowing participants to continue their wellbeing journey wherever they are.
The continued growth of Luminous Living has been driven not by marketing trends, but by reputation, authenticity and the tangible impact experienced by those attending its programmes. According to Charmaine, integrity, preparation, courage and the ability to truly listen have been fundamental to that success. Every workshop, retreat and corporate experience is carefully designed, with attention given to music, language, pacing, transitions and psychological safety to ensure participants can engage in a way that feels comfortable and meaningful.
Her own experience of burnout also transformed her understanding of resilience.
“I had to learn that resilience is not the same as pushing through everything,” she said. “Constantly pushing through was part of what made me ill. For me, resilience has meant knowing when to continue, when to pause, when to change direction and when to ask for help.”
Building the business has required learning far beyond therapeutic practice alone. From technology and course development to marketing, music production and business management, Charmaine has embraced every challenge while remaining committed to delivering authentic, ethically grounded experiences. During difficult moments, it was the visible transformation in participants that continually reaffirmed her purpose.
She describes watching people arrive feeling exhausted, sceptical or disconnected, only to leave visibly lighter, more relaxed and more connected to themselves and those around them. These moments continue to shape every aspect of her work.
For Charmaine, wellbeing should never feel inaccessible or intimidating. Healing can involve reflection and stillness, but it can also include music, movement, humour and genuine human connection. That philosophy has become central to Luminous Living’s approach, creating environments where colleagues move beyond job titles and reconnect as people.
Her greatest personal achievement remains rebuilding her own life and finding genuine happiness and health. Professionally, she is most proud that the practices which transformed her own wellbeing have become experiences people repeatedly choose to return to, bringing friends, colleagues and family members with them. While industry recognition is deeply appreciated, she believes the strongest measure of success is hearing participants say they feel lighter, clearer and more like themselves after attending a session.
Looking ahead, Charmaine is returning into the corporate environments she once left behind, but with an entirely different purpose.
Rather than asking organisations to adapt to her methods, she is bringing professionally facilitated wellbeing experiences directly into workplaces through leadership events, away days, conferences and wellbeing programmes. These immersive experiences combine guided movement, music, reflection and recovery practices that help employees release pressure, reconnect with themselves and strengthen relationships within their teams.
She hopes participants leave not only energised but genuinely transformed, creating healthier workplace cultures that support both people and organisational success.
Receiving the Influential Woman in Business 2026 honour has further strengthened that mission. For many years, Luminous Living expanded quietly through referrals and word of mouth, with its impact felt primarily by those who experienced it firsthand. The award now provides wider recognition and credibility as Charmaine expands into larger corporate partnerships, digital learning programmes and professional training opportunities.
Her journey has also been shaped by many important influences. Encouragement from her parents to “do what you want to do” gave her the confidence to travel, challenge convention and create her own path. Long-term mentors, psychotherapy, indigenous teachers, students and clients have all contributed to her philosophy, reinforcing that healing can be profound without becoming inaccessible, deeply spiritual without losing professionalism, and firmly rooted in ancient traditions while remaining relevant to today’s workplace.
Charmaine also offers simple but powerful advice to women considering a similar path. Follow your passion, remain open to opportunity, continue learning, ask for help when needed and never assume that doing something differently means doing it incorrectly. Many of the most meaningful innovations begin by recognising there is another way.
Today, Charmaine’s purpose has shifted dramatically from balancing profit and loss to helping organisations create authentic thriving. Having experienced both worlds, she believes they are not mutually exclusive. Healthy, connected people build healthier, more successful organisations, and that conviction now sits at the heart of everything Luminous Living delivers.
As Charmaine says, “I am not asking organisations to enter my world. I am bringing the work carefully and professionally into theirs.”
